What is a Lead Magnet?

A lead magnet is a piece of content that is of high value that you can promote to your audience in exchange for their contact information - usually their email address, name, and/or phone number.

The lead magnet can be in many different forms - an audio, eBook, video, interview, PDF download, PowerPoint presentation, etc.

Your lead magnet needs to solve three key objectives.

First, it must be of high perceived value. That is, your audience must find that your lead magnet is valuable enough to solve their problem.

Second, the lead magnet must be easy to consume and provide a quick solution to the problem they have.

Finally, after consuming the lead magnet your audience should be convinced that they should buy your product or join your business opportunity over your competition.

To sum up, your lead magnet must provide a specific solution to a specific problem for a specific audience.

3 Steps to Creating a Perfect Lead Magnet for 2022

The other day I attended a training by Brian and Jim Fanale, co-founders of My Lead System Pro (MLSP). 

My Lead System Pro has been around since 2008 and they have taught home business owners how to generate leads for their business.

They have tested every type of lead magnet out there.

Videos, audios, PDFs, ebooks, etc.

What they've discovered is that people's attention spans have become very short.

The average attention span of a human being is 8 seconds!

With that said, people may opt into your list but not consume your lead magnet if it takes too much time.

They've come up with a simple 3 step process to create the perfect lead magnet that your audience will consume.

Step 1: Identify the Problem You Solve as it Relates to WHAT YOU SELL

The first step is to identify what's the big problem your product or business opportunity solves?

If you're an affiliate marketer you'll want to look at your sales page to identify the big problem your product solves.

If you're in network marketing, review your business opportunity video.

Then look at your audience and ask yourself "What's the biggest PROBLEM my audience has?"

Step 2: What is a Related Problem Your Simple Lead Magnet Can Solve?

Now that you have identified the big problem, what is a related problem that your audience has.

Let's say that you have a weight loss shake product.

The BIG problem is your audience wants to lose weight, but they are always snacking between meals because they have sugar crashes after meals.

A potential lead magnet could be sharing some tips how people can lose weight without sugar crashes or feeling hungry between meals.

The call to action in that lead magnet will lead people to purchase your weight loss shake.

Step 3: How Can You Deliver That Information?

The final step in creating the perfect lead magnet is to determine how to deliver it.

Keep in mind this has to be something easy to consume.

Brian and Jim have tested many different lead magnets and the ones that have had the most success - that is, easily consumed are:

Checklists or an eBook containing less than 10 pages.

They found when creating checklist or an Ebook it should contain no more than 5 tips.
