Many home business owners think that marketing is the same as prospecting. In this post you'll learn the differences between the two and how they will grow your business.
What is Prospecting?
Prospecting is where you initiate contact with someone who you know or don't know to see it they're open to taking a look at your product, service, or business opportunity.
Most people hate prospecting because they are working from the List of 100 - friends, family, and people they know.
They hear a lot of "No's" and stop before they even get halfway through their list.
What is Marketing?
Marketing, on the other, hand is where people reach out to you based on what you have done.
This can be a paid ad, a social media post, YouTube video, reels/stories, or email.
Marketing is NOT taking your opportunity links and posting them everywhere on social media.
There's a specific 3 step format.
3 Step Marketing Formula
The first step in your marketing plan is to build your audience, engage your audience, and then sell to your audience.
Not everyone on your list of 100 is your perfect customer who would be interested in your product or opportunity.
You identify their biggest pain points and how your product/business will help them solve that problem.
Once you've identified your audience, then you engage them by giving them valuable content that will educate them to make an informed decision that they're ready to buy your product or join your team.
Do Home Business Owners Need to do Both?
Absolutely!
You use marketing to find out who your dream customers are and where they're handing out online.
Next you create valuable content that will "hook" those dream customers to take action - to reach out to you to give you their contact information.
From there you can prospect them by seeing if they're open to taking look at your product or opportunity.
The best part about this is you can automate the marketing process to get people reaching out to you, so you're only talking to interested prospects.
This is a huge time saver especially if you're starting your business part time.
As legendary marketer Dan Kennedy says "marketing makes selling easier."
And if you do your marketing correctly, your dream customers will buy from you over and over to get residual income.
